Haploa Moth Flower Shield 2024
Acrylic on muslin
36x36in
Moths are a conduit to explore light, color, form, and texture. Flowing acrylic creeps and soaks, suggesting a surface in motion or a kind of aliveness. A meditation on the form in such a way as to be past what is materially exact, something less knowable- but akin to the fact of beauty we find in organic life.
I love Haploa moths. Their graphic pattern and subtle variation within a species inspired me to make six paintings of individuals and huddle them together to create a flower and/or shield shape in this piece.
